Out From the Depths

Out From the Depths

Out from the depths, the Lord heard my cry.

Sometimes Christians find themselves straying far from God. Too often, it is realized when teetering on the precipice of utter collapse. Can I be redeemed, or will the world swallow me whole?

I had fallen away from God’s gracious, lovingkindness. I was swept up by the lure of worldliness and all its trappings, surrounding myself with creature comforts, not realizing how superficial my life had become and God’s light a mere speck in the distance.

It wasn’t until I saw what awaited me looking down into the abyss my sin-ravaged soul had created. I chose to tread a bleak, empty path, void of true peace, eternal love, and enduring hope. How could I have sunk so low? If not for that pinprick of realization, I would have blindly continued on that path of destruction.

It was at that moment my eyes were opened, like the prodigal son’s. I assessed my estate and was found wanting. How could I dare ask for forgiveness? It was I who desired that path. It was I that lavished in the ways of this world. But at last, I saw my folly and was ashamed. Would God forgive such a wretched soul like mine?

I know God’s mercy is infinite. His grace is ever-present. He hears the cries of all who call upon His name. Undeserving, I plead from the depths of my inner being that the Lord would hear my cry. Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned. Please let me return to you.

Out from the depths, my voice He did hear. God’s purifying love smote my sinful ruin and welcomed my return into His loving arms. A sense of peace overwhelmed me. I knew I had come home.

Friend, if you find yourself on the wrong path or feel trapped in the world’s waywardness, there is a way to escape. First, you need to bow the knee and make right with your Creator in humility and sincerity. His work of transformation and healing begins with your repentance.

Psalm 130:1: “(A Song of degrees.) Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.”

Psalm 130:2: “Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.”

Psalm 130:3: “If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?”

Psalm 130:4: “But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.”

Psalm 130:5: “I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.”

Psalm 130:6: “My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.”

Psalm 130:7: “Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.”

Psalm 130:8: “And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.”

It is a psalm for redemption, not only for Israel but for every tormented soul that realizes their frailty in this unforgiving world. Return to God. It is the only solution.

Perhaps you had a similar experience. It is worth sharing your experience with others who are still in the throes of sin or on the brink of repentance. It is worth sharing because you can make a difference in someone’s life. Isn’t that what it’s all about, making a difference in someone’s life? What can be worth more than that? There is no greater joy and no greater worth than to see a soul set free from sin.
