Sanctity of Human Life

Sanctity of Human Life

Churches across the country are dedicating January 22, 2023, as Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. Thousands of people are beginning the new year, championing God’s truth that all human life, from the womb to the last breath, is sacred because He created us in His image.

Genesis 1:27-28: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:”

A Proclamation

On Sunday, January 22, 1984, 11 years after the ruling of the Supreme Court in the case Roe vs. Wade, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation for the first Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. Here are excerpts of that proclamation:

“The values and freedoms we cherish as Americans rest on our fundamental commitment to the sanctity of human life. The first of the “unalienable rights” affirmed by our Declaration of Independence is the right to life itself, a right the Declaration states has been endowed by our Creator on all human beings — whether young or old, weak or strong, healthy or handicapped.

“I call upon the citizens of this blessed land to gather on that day in homes and places of worship to give thanks for the gift of life, and to reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of each human life.”

Isaiah 49:1: “The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.”

As our commitment on this day of dedication, let us value the lives of the unborn and remember the millions of lives lost to abortion. Let us bring life-affirming hope to women, families, and communities through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

There are many online resources available and special events held by local churches where you can become actively involved with saving precious lives. Here’s a great resource to get equipped and educated about the Sanctity of Human Life movement.
