The Truth Behind Science and the Resurrection
Can the resurrection of Jesus Christ actually be proven through science? Many scientists present evidence supporting their claim that the resurrection could not have happened. Yet, there is a growing body of evidence proving just the opposite. As debate continues as to whether or not there was a resurrection in the scientific community, the latest advances in research are being applied to study the most significant occurrence in human history.
But where does science end and faith begin? Can the two co-exist and still be true to their core principles? Does one complement and support the other? As questions linger a growing number of scientific articles backing up the resurrection have been published, a few very compelling articles addressing these questions are mentioned below that you may find very interesting to read:
#1 – A Scientist’s List of the Resurrection
A great article on the subject was written by Dr. S. Joshua Swamidass, a physician, scientist, and Assistant Professor of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri. In his view, “Science is full of trust-like faith. We believe grand, counterintuitive things because we trust the accounts of trustworthy sources.”
He goes on to say, “I am a scientist. Still, on Easter, I celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead about 2,000 years ago. This event, in first-century Palestine, is the cornerstone of everything. In the same way that trust-like faith in science is connected to evidence, so is the faith I have in the Resurrection.”
Dr. Swamidass outlines the evidence from which his trust grew, including the physical resurrection that changed human history, date authentication, the real person of Jesus, early accounts and details of the resurrection, the conviction of his followers, signs of a living God, and more.

#2 – Evidence Testing of the Resurrection
A fascinating article written by Leah Baugh in which she describes some of the proofs of Jesus’s death, his resurrection, and fulfillment of prophecy. She touches on investigative methods used to examine evidence that withstand the test of time.
“In recent years, however, many Christians have been applying the very methods scientists have used to discredit the resurrection to prove the resurrection was a real event. This study is called ramified natural theology. Like natural science, natural theology seeks to examine Christian claims specifically through rational, objective procedure.”

#3 – Historical Proof of the Resurrection
Another excellent read about the historical impact of the resurrection was written by Benjamin C. Shaw, Student Fellow, Theology and Apologetics, Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and Gary R. Habermas, Distinguished Professor of Apologetics and Philosophy and chairman of the department of philosophy and theology at Liberty University.
They wrote that the resurrection’s “historical evidence grounds the Christian’s claims in the real world and reveals God’s activity.” Their article begins by highlighting historical evidence for Jesus’ resurrection and then considers how this event influences the present lives of believers.
