Emmanuel

Emmanuel

Emmanuel is a sermon teaching us why it was necessary for Jesus to be born of a virgin. One reason was to fulfill prophecy. The other reason was to be born sinless since sin is passed through the father. The biblical story of the virgin birth predates most arguments against it. In Genesis it is prophesied that Jesus will come and that He will be of the seed of the woman. In the book of Hebrews, God promised that Jesus would come and that there would be a sign, the sign was the birth of the Savior by a virgin.

Emmanuel’s Birth Debate

When presented with arguments against the virgin birth, don’t be swayed, it did happen and it happened exactly as prophesied. God did exactly what He said He was going to do, that a child would be born of a virgin and His name will be Emmanuel, God with Us. This child who is born is God with Us. When King Solomon asked the question if God will ever dwell with men on this Earth, the answer is yes. Not only will He, He has.

God came to dwell with men. He did and fulfilled the prophecy of God with Us, Emmanuel. It cannot be any more literal than that – God is with us. God, who the universe cannot contain, became a tiny seed in the womb of a virgin to be born so that He could dwell with us. He was born as all children are and lived a sinless life even though He was tempted as we are. He was touched with our infirmities so that He knows exactly what we are going through. Then God who dwelt among us, gave his life for the redemption of mankind; being buried, He rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures.

God Dwelling in Believers

Since the resurrection, He dwells in the body of believers. He promised before his death that the coming of the Holy Spirit will dwell in believers, but that the world cannot receive. The world does not have this gift because they do not recognize Him. Scripture says that to all who believe, to them gave He power to become the sons of God. When you receive Him, you receive Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. You receive all the fullness of the godhead. And the Holy Spirit dwells in you as God living with man. The Holy Spirit that dwells in us is our Emmanuel.

The day is coming when God will once again be present in physical form and will reign for 1,000 years among us. The world will know peace when the Prince of Peace reigns in the hearts of men. We can know peace and love in our own hearts right now by believing on Him. If you will let Him dwell in you, then God is with you, as your Emmanuel.

Emmanuel sermon starts with verses from Matthew 1:1-25:

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

Also a verse from Isaiah 7:14:

14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Genesis 3:15:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Revelation 24:3:

3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
