Love and Sacrifice is a sermon teaching us that while we were sinners as the enemies of God, Jesus Christ died for us so that we could be saved.
The highest form of love is self-sacrificial love, the kind of love that gives of itself. We keep Jesus’s commandments because we have been saved, NOT to become saved. He gave Himself for us because He loved us.
We follow His commandments because we love Him. He commands us to love one another as He loved us, that self-sacrificing, giving kind of love. Jesus said there is no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend. When someone makes the ultimate sacrifice it is because of love. Once someone gives their life there is no greater act of love that they can give. That’s why Jesus said there is no greater love than that self-sacrificing love.
Jesus taught us that when we are justified by faith we have peace. And we have peace with God through Jesus Christ. We also have access to God and His grace through faith. Not only do we gain these, but we also glory in tribulation, praising God for the troubles we are having, “knowing that tribulation worketh patience, patience experience; and experience, hope.”
We know God has taken care of us in the past and will do so again. Because of hope, we can come before God no longer bound by our sin. We can come before God as beneficiaries of His love. When we receive Him, we receive the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost which dwells in us. We receive peace, patience, and hope — all come out of experiencing trouble. Jesus asks us to trust Him and He will bring us through our tribulations. As believers, we will have trouble in our lives, we are not exempt from it.
We have peace justified by faith through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus died for the ungodly. We were not born righteous. We were born with a sin nature. If we could choose who to die for, we are more likely to die for a righteous person. But Jesus died for the ungodly, for us, while we were sinners. We have been justified by the blood of Jesus Christ and saved from the wrath of God against sin.
Not only are we saved by the one who died on the cross but we also live because He lives and we will reign with Him forever. Put your faith and trust in Him and call upon Him for forgiveness. Jesus said, “Because I live, you will live also.” We have hope in Jesus Christ.
For what or for whom would you give your life? Ask yourself what would you die for, or, what are you living for? Would you give your life to serve the living Savior? Jesus died for us while we were sinners, demonstrating true love and sacrifice.
Love and Sacrifice sermon starts with verses from John 15:12-14:
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
Also John 14:15:
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Romans 5:1-10:
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
