One More Year to Bear Fruit is a sermon teaching us that our time in this world is limited and we should use our time well by bearing fruit for the Lord.

How much longer will the church be here? For anyone of us, our time, our life, is allocated time that God gave to us; we will be here until our time is over. We don’t know how long we will live. When that day comes we leave the realm of time and enter the realm of eternity, but where? We stand before God to be judged. Television concepts of after death, and poor teaching and poor theology are not realistic.

Aiding a brother or sister to get over their problems is scriptural. Christians should live differently than the world, setting an example for the world to see godliness. God wants us to share the Gospel, it is our duty.

The judgment is based on how we lived our life. Salvation is settled but what we do in service is what is judged. Have we produced fruit? The believer is to bear fruit, to be a fruit-bearing Christian. Christians produce more Christians. It is the fruit of the Holy Spirit, whether individually or as a church. When we are born again our spiritual growth starts. We are to grow more and more like Jesus. Are we producing Christians? The Lord has a right to see us bear fruit. We must keep our bodies under subjection to be a tool in the Lord’s hand and not be cast aside as unproductive.

Our work will be tried by fire and we will receive our reward. If any work shall burn it will not be rewarded. What we do for the Lord is rewarded. We won’t lose our salvation but we will have our reward. The fruit we have borne for the Lord will not burn and lasts because it is our eternal reward.

Things that burn as wood, hay, and stubble are things we know we should not have done. That’s what the judgment seat of Christ does. There are results and effects. What we do now that lasts is bound in Heaven. Sometimes there are times to get rid of things that are not worthy or not worth anything. Jesus says if it is nourished with God’s word for a year and does not bear fruit, then it will be gone. So it is with churches.

It is the will of God for Christians, churches, and Israel to bear fruit. The key to bearing fruit is a close relationship with God which starts when you are saved. We should celebrate our spiritual birthday to renew in our minds of when and how we were saved and to grow into Christ as much as possible. The fruit-bearing Christian will be blessed and receive their reward. The fruitless Christian will fail to have reward but also wither as a useless tool.

Take this year and see what you can do. We are not guaranteed to have another year on this Earth. But God wants to see more years of fruit-bearing Christians. To bear fruit well is good and is what the Lord expects. Are we still producing fruit? Want to see more fruit and receive your reward? Ask the Lord to become a fruit-bearing Christian and to not waste our time in this world.

⁶ He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

⁷ Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

⁸ And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

⁹ And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

John 3:17-18:

¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

¹⁸ He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 15:1-16:

¹ I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

³ Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

⁴ Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

⁵ I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

⁶ If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

⁷ If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Mark 11:12-14:

¹² And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:

¹³ And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

¹⁴ And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
