Open His Eyes

Open His Eyes

Open His Eyes is a sermon teaching us that we need to open our eyes. We all need spiritual awakening and pray that the unbelievers of our country and our world open their eyes to see the truth of the Gospel. We need to pray that the believers in our country and our world would open their eyes and see that God is doing things even in these times. The servant of Elisha had no idea what the Lord was doing but Elisha did and he prayed that his servant’s eyes be opened.

Blindness is a difficult thing. Many great servants of God that are blind and have done great things. There are times in our lives when we are not without physical sight, we can see, but sometimes we face situations that seem dark and hopeless. It could be a financial situation, a betrayal of someone we loved and trusted or a great disappointment, something worked hard for and discovered it’s not going to happen, or perhaps what we have built has been destroyed. It might be a great rejection that brings us to darkness or a devastating illness. It may be the loss of a loved one, a physical attack, or an abusive situation. We are facing things today that are out of our control. But in truth, we always face things beyond our control. Yet the child of God is never alone even when it feels like we are alone.

When we are surrounded and the situation seems hopeless, when darkness seems to be all around us, and there doesn’t seem to be a way out, there doesn’t seem to be hope. It seems like it’s never going to end, we may not see the horses, we may not see the chariots of fire as Elisha did, but we still have the promises of God. We need to know and understand the Lord knows things that we don’t and the Lord is quite often doing things we can’t see.

We need to pray earnestly, again, that the unbelievers’ eyes be opened to the truth of the Gospel and be saved. We need to pray for the believers in our country and the world, that their eyes are open to see the things of God. We need to pray that our own eyes would be opened so that He can bring through ways that we cannot even imagine. Let God show us the things we cannot see.

Elisha prayed to open his servant’s eyes that he may see. Ask God to open our eyes, to illume us and ask to help us see His hand working. Ask for his help to realize that God is with us even if we don’t realize He is working with us and has things in control — he is doing things that we don’t know. Ask the Lord to help us walk by faith and not by sight. And when it is in God’s time, that He gives us the sight we need. Ask for His help to follow Him, to be totally surrendered to Him, to His leadership, and His cause.

Open His Eyes sermon starts with verses from I Kings 6:8-18:

8 Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

12 And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

13 And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

14 Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
