Renewed Strength

Renewed Strength

Renewed Strength is a sermon teaching us that if we grow weary doing the Lord’s work, God will renew our strength if we start with a personal revival.

Renewed Strength sermon starts with a verse from Isaiah 40:31:

31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Sometimes we need renewed strength. This verse has brought strength and encouragement to many and many have claimed it as a life verse. The verse starts out with serving the Lord. Serving has to be done patiently according to the Lord’s timetable.

Doing the work of the Lord involves dealing with people, and the Lord will give the strength you need for the work. Dealing with family issues is troubling and stressful. Some are dealing with health issues. Some deal with emotional matters. Others deal with spiritual warfare. Our physical strength, spiritual strength, mental and emotional strength need to be refreshed.

Great spiritual leaders need renewed strength. Even the great Charles Spurgeon dealt with depression. Elijah became weary in doing a great work for God. He calls out to God and God gave him rest and nourishment and his soul was restored. You could be weary from doing a good work for God. It could be you need to be nourished and restored. After Elijah was restored, he got up and ran, he went to Mount Horeb and talked with God. God tells him that he is not the only one doing the Lord’s work, there are many who also grow weary from the work and are restored.

Samson is another example, after his hair was cut his strength failed but God restored his strength one last time and Samson did one last great work at the end of his life. Moses received renewed strength after leading his people out of Egypt. God gave us a great example with Moses.

John Mark who wrote the Book of Mark went on his first missionary trip with his uncle Barnabas. But he gave up and quit because he was tired. He did not properly prepare for the work. God’s work is not always easy, hardship is certain to come. Mark failed because he underestimated the strength of the Devil. If you are trying to do God’s work, Satan will bother you. Maybe Mark failed because he sought to serve God under his own strength instead of seeking God’s.

David is another example. When he faced Goliath, he said “I’m coming to you in the name of the Lord, for the battle is the Lord’s.” The archangel Michael and Satan battle it out in the Book of Revelation. Michael is likely the most powerful of all angels. Michael said, “the Lord rebuke thee.” Even Michael recognized the battle is the Lord’s and not his.

Eventually, Mark was restored and traveled with Barnabas again, although there was a falling out between Paul and Barnabas over Mark. Towards the end of Paul’s life, he wrote, “only Luke is with me. Take Mark and bring him with thee.” Mark made a comeback. Mark was used by the Holy Spirit to be one of the four Gospel writers and wrote of the works being done for the Lord. He never mentions himself directly and his emphasis was on Jesus. He concludes that “they went forth and preached everywhere. The Lord working with them and confirming the Word with signs following them. Amen.” Mark was mightily used by God. He came back and renewed his strength.

You may need renewed strength. In all the work you’re going to have to do and all the challenges you’re going to have to face, and all the things you attempt, there will be times when you are going to need to restore your strength. How do you renew your strength?

The Lord gives the answer in Isaiah 40:31:

31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Take a personal inventory of what your needs are. If you need physical strength maybe you just need some rest or nutrition or a better sleep schedule. If your primary need is spiritual, you may need to spend more time in the Word. Maybe you need to give your testimony more often. You will have a renewal of your salvation experience. It is a very effective way of witnessing and you will be restored. Pray often, even Jesus needed to pray. Then seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit to help you do the Lord’s work, to give you boldness and strength.

Proper care of physical health will keep you healthy. Proper care of spiritual health is even more essential. Even if your health fails, your spiritual health can stay strong. Many hymns were written by people who lacked physical strength but had great spiritual strength. Spiritual strength starts with salvation, but your spiritual health continues as long as you are growing spiritually. Bible reading, memorization, meditation, prayer, are all necessary for spiritual growth. And there’s more, you need to be fellowshipping with other Christians and let them strengthen you. And do spiritual exercise — teach what you’ve learned to others, witness the plan of salvation to others, serve God and carry out His ministry, help others to be saved, or help others in their spiritual growth.

How is your spiritual strength? Is it time for renewal? Remember what it was like when you got saved. How you hungered for the Word and wanted to tell others. You can be there again. What you need is to renew your strength. What you need is a personal revival. You can be there again and have your strength renewed.
