Such An High Priest is a sermon teaching us about the role of priest in the bible. In the Old Testament it was the High Priest of the temple that interceded for the people and went to God on our behalf for forgiveness of sin. In the New Testament, Jesus is our High Priest. When he died on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn so that we could have direct access to God. Once saved, there is nothing else to do to stay saved. We need to grow spiritually, and live more like Jesus. We should strive to be perfect as the Father is perfect.
No longer are priests needed to intercede for us to God. Jesus Himself became the ultimate sacrifice, becoming the propitiation of our sin, taking our sin upon Himself and dying at the cross on Calvary. Jesus even prays for us, making intercession for us to God the Father. Jesus says to follow Him and we will be blessed. Are you reaping blessings by following Jesus?
Such An High Priest sermon starts with verses from Hebrews 7:23-28:
23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
Also, verses from Matthew 5:6-7:
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
I John 2:2:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
John 17:13-20:
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
