The Appointment is a sermon teaching us that we all have an appointment to die. What happens when you die? Life is an allotment of time. Life is short and our time on this Earth is limited. As Christians, we should not grieve like those who have no hope. There’s a reason why you haven’t met your allotment, don’t cut it short. Our time will be short enough.
When it’s over then what? Then there’s the judgment. There are no do-overs. Make the best of the opportunities in life. Just as there are degrees of punishment in Hell for the unsaved, there are degrees of reward in Heaven for the saved. We are heirs of God’s hope.
We have an appointment, but are we ready? Are we ready for judgment? Be secure and repent of sin in your life, you’ll be forgiven. And look for His return when He shall come and take us home with Him to Heaven.
The Appointment sermon starts with verses from Hebrews 9:27-28:
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Also verses from Psalms 90:9-10:
9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Psalms 103: 15-16:
15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
Revelation 20:11-15:
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Hebrews 10:9-14:
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
