The Father’s Love is a sermon teaching us that we become the sons of God and joint-heirs with Christ when we believe that Jesus is our personal savior.
The Book of I John was written to new Christians in the faith, those who haven’t yet learned very much. We have a wonderful truth of the Father’s love in I John chapter 3, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hasty bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:”
On Father’s Day, we honor fathers regardless of their faults and failures. Children should be raised in a godly way. Some carry on and some depart from the way. Parents should still try to do their best to raise their children and in their old days, they will remember what their parents taught them. Children are to honor their father and mother, it is a command.
God knows earthly fathers are imperfect. But God made man in His own image. Parents are created in the image of God. Children are to honor their father and mother because they are created in the image of God. Children are to see God as our Heavenly Father. Our earthy father is a picture of our Heavenly Father. The family was designed to be a picture of the Trinity.
King David was not perfect but he loved his children. His children were not perfect but David still loved them. The prodigal son squandered all his inheritance and returned to his father who welcomed his son back, still loving him as well as his self-righteous son. We are heirs and joint-heirs with Christ to all God has. We should be called the sons of God, which is a privileged title.
God is the source of love. Both saved and unsaved can love, but believers have agape love. Because God loves us He gave us His one begotten Son to be a propitiation for our sins. If God so loved us, so should we love one another.
Here is a picture of God’s love:
#1 We are called the sons of God.
#2 The world does not know us because it doesn’t know God.
We should not get caught up with the things of this world because it is all temporary. Instead, do the things of God that last forever. The day you were born again you become a son of God. Here’s how: believe in Jesus. He is the Savior and you will be saved. Jesus’ title is Christ, the Messiah, the Savior. Jesus is not your Savior until you know He is your personal Savior.
When we love God, we keep his commandments. The victory that overcomes the world is our faith because it is of God not of ourselves. Jesus is the Son of God and we become the sons of God. We are saved, have a place in Heaven, become a son of God, and there’s more coming.
When Jesus comes we shall be like Him. When we see Him we will see Him as He is. Our faith shall be made sight and we will be like Him. We all have our own image of Jesus but one day we will see Him as He is and will be like Him. Every man that has this hope motivates us to live for Him until we see Him. Paul wrote I John so that we can know that we have eternal life because of the love of the Father. Ask God to bring you closer to Him so you can fully enjoy the love of the Father.
The Father’s Love sermon starts with verses from I John 3:1-3:
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
and more verses from I Samuel 13:14:
14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.
I John 4:7-11:
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
I John 2:15:
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
I John 5:1-5:
1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
I John 4:9:
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
I John 5:11-13:
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
