The Holiness of God is a sermon teaching us that man cannot save us, only God can save us. This is important to keep in mind as we enter an election year. Even if we vote on all we think are the right issues and individuals, if our heart is not right with God, we are sunk. God is our only hope. We should recognize God as Holy and that affects how we think, talk, act, and treat others.
God is Holy. There are three attributes of God:
Omniscience – God is all-knowing.
Omnipotence – God is all-powerful.
Omnipresence – God is everywhere.
Eternality of God – God is eternal without beginning or end.
Holiness – Holiness defines who God is.
There was never a time God did not exist. We live in time but God lives outside of time. God’s holiness means He is separate from everyone and everything else. God is clean in every aspect of what we think cleanliness is to the extent He is pure. God’s holiness means He is perfect and uncontaminated. Isaiah saw God in all of His holiness sit high above in His throne. We are not holy and being in all our sinful state, we sit in contrast with the holy God. That is why we need forgiveness. A child of God needs to be obedient. God calls for the weak who are willing to surrender to Him and calls us to be perfect.
God’s holiness and our sin separate us from God. God resides in his high throne and is not brought down to our level, except as Jesus, God incarnate, who dwelled among us and reconciled us to God. We need to recognize the holiness of God in our hearts, minds, homes, churches, society, and nation. And until we see God as holy, pure, clean, undefiled unlike as we are in our sinful condition, we only have one hope. God loved us while we were yet sinners and Christ died for us. When we come to realize that, when we come to trust Him as our Savior but also as our Lord because He is holy, only then, will we see God really work in our hearts, our lives, our homes, our church, and our nation.
The Holiness of God sermon starts with verses from Isaiah 6:1-8:
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
