The Time of Jacob’s Trouble is a sermon teaching us that there will be great tribulation in the last days. But God will save and restore Israel and rule from Jerusalem.

Scripture teaches us that “in the last days” means the time period at the end of the world, the final days of the world, the final times. In the last days, perilous times shall come, dangerous times. Sometimes we think about how people can do the things they do to other people. It is because their “conscious is seared.”

But in those days, the people of Israel will be saved by the Lord according to what’s written in the Book of Life. Those will be troublesome days as never before in the history of the planet, what we call the “great tribulation.” But the elect’s days shall be shortened.

When God refers to this subject He repeatedly says two truths. First, that day is great, meaning it is great in its scope and magnitude. It is a time so unique that none other is like it. Secondly, it is called the “time of Jacob’s trouble.” Jacob became Israel and the father of the twelve tribes of Israel.

During this troubling time, Israel will be saved out of it and is going to survive the great tribulation. Israel is called the everlasting nation. Israel is going to be freed from bondage. Throughout history, Israel was in bondage by other nations. Repeatedly God calls Israel back to Him, for a period they do and then fall away and into bondage and scattered among nations. The cycle repeats for centuries. Israel remained out of its land until the mid-20th century when they were once again able to have a homeland for the people. In the last days, God says there will be no more bondage for the people of Israel and one from the line of David will reign over Israel forever.

When Israel went back to their homeland in 1948, they had no peace. Nations fought with Israel immediately and ever since. They want the land of Israel so they can say their god defeated the God of Israel, the God of Jacob. But when there is no more bondage, God is going to make the people of Israel secure in their land. God is with Israel and will save them, through their Savior. God will judge the nations who were cruel to Israel.

God will chasten the people of Israel as children because of their multitude of sins. God loves the people of Israel and chastens them to bring them back to Himself. Israel needs to repent of their sin and return to the Lord. The time of Jacob’s trouble will be the time of the deliverance of Israel but it will not be a time of peace. Judgment will occur in the rest of the world not only because they have rejected Israel but more importantly, they rejected the God of Israel and the Word of the God of Israel. Worse yet, they rejected the Son who came to be their Savior.

God is the Great Healer and will restore Israel, He still loves His people. He’s going to call the people of Israel back to their nation and He will rebuild and restore Israel. Israel will no longer be under anyone’s rule, they will be under their own rule as a free and independent nation. This is the promise of the God of Israel. This is how the time of Jacob’s trouble ends and we enter the period of the millennial kingdom of Christ. He will reign from the throne of David in Jerusalem. They will be His people and He will be their God. What’s happening in the world today is unprecedented and we don’t know the outcome, perhaps it’s a preview of what the time of Jacob’s trouble will be like. The church will be gone when the great tribulation happens, this is known as the rapture. But there is nothing that says there will not be great trouble before the rapture. For now we just press on and be ready for the Lord’s return.

The Time of Jacob’s Trouble sermon starts with verses from Jeremiah 30:7-22:

⁷ Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

⁸ For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:

⁹ But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

¹⁰ Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.

¹¹ For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.

¹² For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.

¹³ There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.

¹⁴ All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.

¹⁵ Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.

¹⁶ Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.

¹⁷ For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.

¹⁸ Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.

¹⁹ And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

²⁰ Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.

²¹ And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.

²² And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

¹ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

² Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Daniel 10:14:

¹⁴ Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.

Daniel 12:1:

¹ And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Matthew 24:21-22:

²¹ For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

²² And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Revelation 3:10:

¹⁰ Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
