Ye Shall Have Tribulation is a sermon teaching us that we are promised troubling times. We need to be faithful and will receive a crown of life.

We shall have tribulation in this world but Jesus overcame the world so that we can have salvation and everlasting life. In Christian churches, there are terms that others don’t use such as rapture, Armageddon, and tribulation. We are not yet in the Tribulation period, it will be worse than the troubles we have now. We won’t be here when the Tribulation comes. But there is trouble in every life, some handle it better than others.

A Sin-Cursed World

In John 16, the Lord is preparing His disciples for things to come. They do not know He will be arrested and crucified, and that they will be scattered and fear for their lives and eventually die because they preach the Gospel. Today, Christians are actually being persecuted and killed. A quarter of Christians in the world are being persecuted today. We have not suffered as others have and we should thank god for that. Religious freedom is waning in the U.S.

Going Thru Troubles

Trouble in our lives may not come as persecution, but as family strife and illness because we live in a sin-cursed world, and therefore trouble is expected. God is not angry with you and you should not rush to that as the first conclusion. If God chastens you it is to cause you to return to him because you’ve gone astray. He only chastens if you need it. But more often it is a Satanic attack because you’ve been doing right. Satan will attack those who work for the Lord. Sometimes we are sick for the glory of God. Sometimes God works through our illness to be a blessing to others. Trouble comes to us for many reasons.

For a Little While

Jesus prepares His disciples and clearly says that trouble is coming. Jesus says He would leave to go to the Father and prepare a place for us and will come again in a little while. They didn’t understand. He said trouble is coming and the world will celebrate and they will lament in sorrow. But He would return and they will have joy. No man will take hope from us — hope is permanent. Everything in this life is temporary but Jesus gives us the promise of hope.

The Promise of Prayer

We should memorize God’s word to be a good witness and the Holy Spirit uses it to encourage you when you need it. Jesus tells his disciples to pray in his name from that point forward. They haven’t ever done that before. The promise of answered prayer “will be given to you” he tells them. Sometimes affliction is for the glory of God but ask it in Jesus’ name so your joy will be full. Don’t pray for something you know is not right. You can go directly to the Father’s throne and pray, “Our Father, who art in Heaven…” God hears you and your prayers are precious to him.

Never Alone

God loves you because you loved Jesus. The disciples understood what Jesus said. He tells them that they will scatter and will leave Him alone. They did scatter and left Him alone. But even so, the Father was still with Him. You are never alone or forsaken, the Father is always with you.

Be of Good Cheer

Jesus finally tells His disciples these promises: First, you might have peace. He wants to give you peace. Come to Him and you will have peace. Second, in the world, you will have trouble. Third, be of good cheer, rejoice and be exceedingly glad because He has overcome the world. The world is temporary. The Lord said to the church in Smyrna in Revelation that you have tribulation. Be faithful and He will give you a crown of life.

So be of good cheer, the Lord has overcome the world. He knows what will happen. We don’t but know that He will lead us to come out on the other side.

Ye Shall Have Tribulation sermon starts with verses from John 16:16-32:

¹⁶ A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

¹⁷ Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

¹⁸ They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

¹⁹ Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

²¹ A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

²² And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

²³ And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

²⁴ Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

²⁵ These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

²⁶ At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

²⁷ For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

²⁸ I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

²⁹ His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

³⁰ Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

³¹ Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

³² Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

³³ These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
